Has anyone had the contraceptive coil?

I am currently using the implant and have been on it for over 4 years, however I have put on a considerable amount of weight and bleeding almost constantly. I am considering having a non hormonal coil fitted as I think the hormones don't agree with me. I was just wondering if anyone has had experience of the coil and if they would recommend it? Thanks x

i used the non hormonal coil for around 10 years, and it suited me great, no weight gain or anything. but it did make me have prolonged/heavy periods, sometimes for up to 10 days!

Thanks JOBOBABE, I heard that those are common side effects of it, but even 10 days is a change to almost constant as it is at the moment, and being only 21 isn't the best! ahah x

I got pregnant with it but aborted at about 9/10 weeks because of the coil. Also gave me heavy and painful periods.

Did you suffer with heavy and painful periods before hand? x

No - They didn't last too long maybe 5 or 6 days just heavy and a lot of pain for the first 2/3 days. This was about 30 years ago though.

My freind also got pregnant using the coil. She had a copper one and she carried full term.

I had the mirena (sp) coil fitted just over a year ago. Eventually no periods and no weight gain on it. (Wish I'd had it fitted earlier)

I have the mirena coil fitted just under 5 years ago and it is the best thing that I have ever done! I get no periods, no mood swings, no weight gain nothing. I would recommend it to anyone..

Thanks bagpuss. I went to have it done in my local family planning clinic, only to be told there were no Doctors there (after waiting over an hour!) but they have given me a number to ring for a hospital for some reason :S not sure why. x
