I saw a hedgehog last night in my garden eating scraps that had fallen from the bird table. What's the best food for them?

Cheapest possible cat or dog food.
Dog food, and water is recommended. Milk and bread are bad for them (even though they like it).
Most garden centres and pet shops sell bags of hedgehog food.

I'll be in a Pets R us place this afternoon. I'll see if they stock that food.
If not sandy - cat or dog food is fine, they like the meaty bits (or alternatively you could dig up some worms, or slugs - I can send you slugs ;-)
Cat biscuits are good as they help to scrape off tartar from the teeth.

They love mealworms too.
We have hedgehogs in the garden Sandy but we don't feed them. Instead we leave them to eat the slugs and snails and they do a pretty good job!.

But for all you could possibly want to know on the subject try here.

I worked in a hedgehog hospital for a very short while, there they feed them cat food.
As has been said above, pretty much anything except bread & milk.
Whatever you decide to feed it, please also add the odd worm or live slug/snail when you can.
You can not give them bread and milk? I did not know that, so anything else is okay then? Would they eat hedgehog flavoured crisps then, or is this classed as cannibalism?

I just put the first feed out for them. It looks like muesli. If they want live slugs or snails they can catch them themselves.
sure they'll enjoy sandy.............listen/watch out for them now, I really enjoy watching them in my garden!..........
