Plastering query -need it finished asap!

I need to plaster chimney breast asap as flooring needs to go down before I move in on sat! My question is: the plaster instructions states it 'sets' in an hr and a half -does that mean I can put another layer on in a couple of hrs, or do I have to leave it 24hrs to dry completely first? Thanks guys.

Good luck if you have never done plastering before, it is not easy.

VHG is right on that, Sammy. One of the most difficult processes to explain to anyone.
What plaster are you using, and what thickness?

Get a plasterer to do it if you have never plastered before, do you have a hawk and correct plasterers trowel?

I know there are many variables when it comes to plastering, however I would say that basically when the first coat has gone hard you can apply a second coat over the top. This doesn't apply to all finishes and renders of course.

Yes, got the tools as done patches before -but this is 1" thick in places (the bits of old plaster that's fallen off). I don't want a polished finish as I'm going to be tilling over the area, so thought I'd give it a go myself. I went to Wickes, just checked products & think he's given us duff advice -he told us to buy Thistle Board Finish -but i'm applying it to bare bricks. It's the Thistle product in the red bag i need isnt it???

When we had some done recently it took time to dry completely. It didn't need more plaster but we were advised not to paint until after a day. Oh, btw, rather you than me.........

Not sure which product you actually need as I haven't used any for a long time but Thistle Board isn't the right one for laying straight on to brick.

WHY NOT DOT N DAB EASIEST OPTION.

why not just dot n dab then tile onto the plasterboard. no plastering needed.

Yes........ plasterboard (double thickness - 25mm) fixed to the brickwork then tiled direct :o)))

If you want tp plaster, you need a backing coat and skim coat to finish...... not worth buying two bag, so use Thistle "One-coat".
