I have an underactive thyroid! It took a long time on the medication for my body to start responding to exercise and diet and lost weight! But advice is right, if they have your dose right, then your metabolism will be "normal" but I said the same things your saying now, I originally weighed 12 and half stone (5'4") and I now weigh 9 stone, 13 lbs. But it's taken LOADS of exercise! Try increasing your metabolic tissue (muscle mass) with light weight training this helped me loads!
Netty.I defy anybody to eat more heathily than me..no sweets hardly any bread love fruit and veg especially bread, even my hubby can't understand it,he sees what I eat..I will ask my G.P. she is very good and will listen to proposals, and if she says no then I will accept it,but in the meantime thanks again to Porilo for good advice.

I have an underactive thyroid and struggle with my weight .When it was first diagnosed I was overweight in spite of eating no more or less than I usually do.
Once the levels were Ok I went on diet monitered at my surgery and lost quite a bit and felt fine .
However my levels then started to go up and down like a yoyo, which entailed lots of tests and variations in my medication until I finally reached an acceptable level which means I'm on 225 micrograms of levothyroxine daily .
I have since put some of the said weight back on and cannot shift it .In spite of eating fairly healthily .
Unfortunately I can't do hard exercise as am very arthritic .So it's a bit like being on a hamster wheel really .
But Porilos advice sounds good and I shall have a word with my GP at the next lot of tests .
Keep trucking piaf . Thyroid problems are a pain in the proverbial :)
If high keep a check on it - hypo thyroids + high BP = risk of strokes = a higher chance of dementia. Wit my mother just diagonised with "mixed" - vascular and the Big A.
My blood pressure is fine DT ..as long as I keep my AB usage to a minimum :)
Thyroid problems can be hereditary . My mother had underactive and my sister was hell on wheels with overactive .
