I did two loads of washing this morning with no problem. The third load this afternoon won`t spin. All I get is the slow spin that you get right at the end of a cycle before the machine switches itself off. I`ve tried switching it to spin only and it does the same. The water has drained and I can open the door but the washing`s sodden. It`s only a bathroom mat so I know it`s not overloaded.

This happened to me last week.Do you have a filter thingy on the front anywhere.I unscrewed mine and it was full of gunk...disgusting.Cleaned it out properly and it washes and spins perfectly (mine is on the front bottom right corner)
Sorry if it's full of water, have a bucket handy and a few towels as when you unscrew the front, all the water will run out here.

Thanks for that barb. I can`t see anything at the front. It`s just one panel. I looked in the troubleshooting section of the instruction manual and it just said something about the pipes. I think investigating that might be a bit beyond me. I`ll give the machine another go tomorrow and if nothing`s improved I guess I`ll have to get an expert.
If it's draining OK then it's probably not the filter blocked, I'm going to say it's probably the carbon brushes on the motor have worn out.

If it is then it's not a big job and they are not an expensive part. (about £25 for the brushes and ten minutes to change them)

Thanks chuck. I`ve just done a test run and it`s working now. Bizarre. I tried about 5 spins yesterday and it didn`t work. I wonder if something was backing up down the pipes yesterday after I did two washes and it was affecting it.
Sometimes they say it's because the load "isn't sitting right" in the drum. It's worth shuffling the load about a bit, especially if there's only one thing in, as was the case here. I called someone out when mine wasn't spinning and they showed me the place in the handbook/manual where it says this will happen if the load is unevenly balanced. Why can't they just make things properly? I hate washing machines - mine always go wrong. I had someone out to my Hotpoint 3 times in the first three months, and to my Hoover in the first month.... Bah humbug.

Thanks Misky. You might be right. The spin I`ve just done was with nothing in the machine. It was only a bathroom mat but maybe that was enough to unbalance it.
When I do my bathmat now I throw something else in with it, even a small towel, to keep things moving round.
I am also going with brushes. Theuy do wear and now could be making intermittent contact.

Go to eSpares and they are very cheap. Also stisfying and easy to fix, but you may have to take the motor out
