Mystery animal

Hi this may be obvious to some people but there was a myster animal in my garden this morning. at first i thought it was a mouse, it had very large round ears, a long tail and hopped like a rabbit. it was gone before i could get a camera, so no image. i live in the channel islands any ideas? thanks

If it was going very quickly, it may be an escaped chinchilla, but they're a wee bit bigger than a mouse.

defintaley not a fairy. possibly a chinchilla, are they very small and grey though?

chinchillas are very silky animals, have large ears and do sort of hop - my only concern is that at first you thought it was a mouse - chins are very much larger, even very young ones.

thanks for your help. it was very small, baby mouse sized. it was brown not grey as i said earlier. the mystery deepens. baby squirrel?
