Why do the royal family wear military uniforms at weddings?
While watching the wedding yestereday I noticed all (or most) of the royal family were wearting military uniforms.
I know many of them are in (or linked) with bracnhes of the military, but why does that mean they have to wear the uniform.
I am sure many serving soldiers and sailers get married in a normal suit and tie, so why do they royals wear a uniform.
Seems a shame that on a "peaceful" day we have to be reminded of war.
(No doudt some people will say they looked dashing but it is still a reminder of war)

You are. Similarly people should be free to respond to you in the way they would naturally.
"...without snide comments being aimed at them, such as those you periodically dish out"
What, like you do when anyone disagrees with you ?

IMO, being awarded a Medal just because of who you are, is on a par with being awarded a University degree just because of who you are - when the rest of us slogged four years to get it. However, c'est la vie - if you are a royal dignitary, you get honours from different countries as well as our own.
We are however in danger of digressing from the OP.

Many service men and women wear their uniforms at their weddings, royal or not, so why cant they be proud to wear their uniform on such a proud day, harry's medal is for operational service in afganistan and williams is a golden jubilee medal, which is given to members of the royal family irraspective of the criteria for any other personell, which i do find unusual.
