Best software for copying Mpeg/Jpegs to CD-Rs?

Can somebody recommend a (prefererably free!) software, easy to use, to copy down my mpeg and jpegs to cd-rs?  I have used Nero and Windows but for some reason the mpeg movies don't copy over correctly - whether that's to do with the fact the my camera (Sony DSC-H1) uses a new format or codec to make the film I'm not sure - but any help would be much appreciated!!  Many thanks!

You say the mpeg movies don't copy over correctly, what happens to them ?. Are they correct in Windows but somehow wrong on the CD ?

Nero is one of the most used products for copying files to CDs so there cannot be problem with that.

Nero should be able to copy mpegs and jpegs to CD without a problem, so why do you think there is something wrong with yours ?

Well, it's quite wierd, never had the problem before but I recently bought a new camera - my old one was a sony too which also took movies, and this one does and I presumed it would still be in the same format.  Now they download as mpegs and play fine on my computer, I copy them onto a disc using nero and suddenly the whole movie becomes "choppy" and by that I mean it will not play smoothly (although the actual picture quality is fine) plus the audio is completely distorted.  Any ideas?   Thanks

My guess is that the file is Ok on the CD, but that the PC cannot read the data off the CD fast enough.

So the PC is trying to play the movie faster than the PC can read it off the CD. Is it perhaps an old PC, or a slow CD player ?

Try copying the file off CD back onto the hard disk, and see if it plays OK, if so it is a slow PC problem.

One other problem could be how the PC is set up. Did you build it yourself or someone build it for you ?.

Devices like hard disks or CD players attach to something called IDE connectors. There are two IDE connectors in your computer, called IDE0 and IDE1.

You can have two devices attached to each IDE connector, so 4 devices in all (2 hard disks, a CD player and DVD player for example).

Now you should attach the hard disk to IDE0, and the CD player to IDE1.

It MAY be that you have both the hard disk AND the CD player attached to IDE0, and the computer just cannot cope with reading the CD player AND working the hard disk.      

Could this be your problem ?

I have a sony vaio laptop, about a year old now.  I should also say that the disk would not work in my DVD player either - doing exactly the same thing, ie visually fine but distored sound and playing slightly choppy.  This is why I believe it is a software problem, or my own laptop problem with not burning correctly.  As for the set up of my laptop, I'm afraid you've got a little too technical for me!!!  I wouldn't even know how to find that out!
