We keep getting calls from a strange number 019993332233 and when we try to answer the caller puts the phone down. has anyone any idea what is happening and if necessary how to stop it?

It's an automated 'survey' call - or rather marketing trying to get round the cold calling regulations.

The caller doesn't put the phone down - there is no sales droid free at the time you pick up

In outlook express there is an option for a 'Block senders list' would it not be a good idea for something similar for phone lines; or maybe something like this exists already ?

We keep getting called by some customer services. They ask for my hubby by name. We`ve told them every time that he`s not interested. The last time they rang I told them that we were fed up of getting disturbed. Before I could finish they hung up. Hopefully that`s the last we hear from them, but I doubt it.

If you join the Telephone Preference Service (free) or the Paying version (CPS) they will block your calls from people dialling randomly. It works, although there is a fee-in time of 28 days before it clicks in. If you then keep getting calls, you report them to the organisation and they take action on your behalf to report the companies who are calling.
