Hello.

I planted some potatoes in a large deep plant pot 8weeks ago. They have shot up to a remarkable height but so far no flowers, also the leaves look like they have had a good chomp in places.

Am I too early anticipating flowers and what would you make of the 'holy' leaves.

I planted them for a bit of fun but now would like to see a little crop if possible !

Thank you for any advice.

Holy leaves - slugs?
Think our potatoes have all flowered now, but they may well have been planted earlier. Perhaps you have planted late (maincrop), we tend to do earlies and mid seasons. I think lates would be dug up in Sept.
You don't need flowers - my dad always used to cut of the flowers anyway, as soon as they appeared, as they take the plants' energy from the roots and the potato formation.

Wondered about slugs puzzled,You wouldnt think it would affect the crop would you?.Im not sure.

I did plant them late I suppose so think i'll bide my time as with the tomato plants.Hopefully i'll be able to tell you how delicious my potatoes and tomatoes were !

Patience isn't obviously one of my virtues :O
We planted some second earlies about the middle of may, we have had flowers and the slugs have had many leaves. the plants themselves are beginning to flop over sidewards now, I have had a furtle and got a couple of reasonable sized ones, but the rest are still small, marble sized. I am going to leave them a little bit longer to see how things go.

Jules001,I may have to have a 'furtle' but i'm convinced now that I was just perhaps too eager.I have looked this morning and there is a semblance of a 'bud' on one of the stalks.

I'll be sure to keep you all posted on further developments !
