What is the purpose of the box.?

Alongside the small icons at the bottom right hand corner of my monitor there has appeared a narrow box with the label 'Address'.. I do not know how it got there or the purpose for which it is intended.

A left hand click onto it produces a cursor and a right hand click produces a menu for 'Unicode Characters' and 'IME'.

Accordingly I welcome comments on this matter.

Can't help I'm afraid, but also can't help wondering if you're a solicitor :-)
It sounds as if you have a file open called "Address....." which has been minimised. At the top right of your screen where the X is, try clicking on the square sign to maximise the file and see what happens.
.. if he was a solicitor he would have added "...in due course" and "bill enclosed"
a screenshot Ron so we know what you're talking about.

We might be able to help!
What happens if you drag the icon up to the top of your screen next to where the tabs/address boxes appear hwhen you are on websites?

Rojash....Whatever gave you the idea that perchance I am/or was a Solicitor.? ....Accordingly it is hereby stated that, as a Solicitor, I never graduated, and, in due course, will explain what is causing me a pain.:-)

To whomsoever it may concern:-

It's not an icon which is on the bottom bar of my screen and no way can I move it. Hopefully the photographs will be self explanatory:-

Please examine both photographs in the photostream;..The second one shews the pop-up menu.

You've added a toolbar. If you do not want it right click on the taskbar, select Toolbar>>delete tick from Address bar.

Sorry SA....I must admit to being unable to follow your instructions. So forgive me if I ask .."What Taskbar do I right click"?

Ron.
The Taskbar is the black bar running across the bottom of your screen. On the right is the 'Notification area' showing running programs ( I see you've got Microsoft Security Essentials running and up to date, because of it's green icon :)). To the far left of that is your windows start button. Area in between is the taskbar.

Thanks SA.......It's worked.

One further question....Are you able to tell me the purpose for which the 'Address box' is intended to be used.?

Ron
Not really used it myself. Appears to act the same as searchbar at the top. For instance if you put 'answerbank' in and press enter this is what you get

As you say it appears to act the same as the search bar at the top. So now that I've removed it, I don't think that I'll be putting it back.

Anyway thanks again SA for your postings.

Best wishes....Ron
