Has anyone been to a Speed Awareness workshop? I was tagged speeding at 36 mph along a road at 6.30 in the morning and I've been given the choice of paying the fixed penalty of £60 and three penalty points OR paying £97.02, attending a speed awareness workshop for three hours and NOT getting any penalty points!
I had three penalty points for 35mph nearly four years ago and was just about to have them removed from my license.
I am by no means a speed freak - I generally get grief from other drivers for sticking to the maximum speed limit of the road I am on.
Im sorry but someone got fined for being 1.4 mph over the speed limit?
Complete rubbish.
There is a tolerance of 10% over the speed limit ppurely because no speedometer is 100% accurate and the rule of thumb is they can be up to 10% out so normally you would not get done for say 34 in a 30
there is no tolerance of 10% where speed cameras etc are concerned.
a speedo in a car may read more than what the vehicle is doing but not less. thats where the tolerance is. ie you may think you are doing 31mph but you car may only be travelling at 29.
But have heard that if you are a frequent offender on the 10% rule they will eventually fine for a lower speed offence. If caught on camera regularily it is recorded. Probably ill informed but was told by an ex speed cop
standard mythery jimmy, there is no tolerance. you can me prosecuted for 0.1 over the limit. In reality though, thankfully, common sense is generaly employed.
A friend of mine attended one of these last week. He said it was actually very interesting. Given that he passed his test over 20 years ago he said he found it extremely useful and now thinks we should all take a driving test refresher every 10 years!!!!
