worktop water spillage

A significant amount of water enough to cause a puddle was spilt and left covering most of the join in the laminate worktop in our kitchen! We seem to think it was left there for about an hour. once we realised and wiped the water away, the join began to start swelling where the water got to. The join was sealed but its obviously not designed to have a lot of water covering it for a while!

Does anybody know if there is a way to get rid of this swelling on the join, or is it ruined?
Its quite noticeable in parts of the join!

Oh dear, Bobby .............. yes, it is supposed to put up with that amount of water. The joint might have been sealed superficially, but both contact surfaces should have been well sealed and waterproofed before putting them together.
I'm afraid that "knackered" does rather sum it up :o(((((

Things might just be repairable very much depending on the width of the swelling at the joint. Some worktop joints aren't made face to face, but have a metal jointing strip fixed between them. It may be possible to carefully sand or grind the swelling to level it. It would then need to have a slot cut along the joint itself to allow the insertion of the jointing strip. A mastic or sealant would hold the strip in place.
