My grandad has a really old watch, he thinks around 100 years old, with the engraving Untergau 194 and Hindenberg just underneath.
He's unsure as to whether this could be an address or a military corps or something.

Would anyone be able to help point me in the right direction to find out have any knowledge on this?

Thanks

An Untergau(e) was subdivision of an Obergau of which there were 36 geographical regions in Germany during the early and mid-1930's for the organization of the Hitler Youth. Your watch, most likely, was a presentation to a leader of Untergau(e) 194 which was most likely identified as the Hindenburg Unter gau(e). The nomenclature often has an "e" at the end, hence my notation...
By the way... these were all girls or "Madchens"... (with the umlaut over the "a")...

ace, cheers for that Clanad! Not quite as old as he suspected then but at least we have an idea of it's history.
Is it 'Hindenberg' or is it Hindenburg'? The latter is a town in Germany, (see Google Maps), and is the spelling given for the Hitler Youth Untergau 194 in this very lengthy document, (which has heaps of mis-spellings, it must be said)...

Gau is the singular, und Gaue is the plural
