Colour discrepancy between monitor and printed photos

Hi guys, I have an HP Photosmart C4680 printer which is not printing out the colours that are represented on the monitor...The colours are much more garish on print than the true colour on the screen. any suggestions on how to remedy this would be great, many thanks in advance!! :)

For a quick answer, Katie, When you click "print" (for an image) the next panel shows the name of the printer and the type of output (Grey or full colour, etc). If you click the Properties button, it will offer print qualities which will/should suit other types of printers.
Choosing another type of printer could possibly slightly alter the intensity of the output and tone down the quality to suit you.
Try printing a small edition of the same picture (say 2 x 2 inch) using all the different types of printers suggested onto a single A4 sheet of ordinary paper and keep it for future reference.
