I want to buy a slicer but not sure which one works the best - i mainly want it for making coleslaw but will also use it when making stews, soups etc. Can any one recommend one please? I was lookng at the Oxo Good Grips one - but now find there are 2 one at around £12 the other £50, is it worth the extra? or is there a better one? I also want a slow cooker but i shall ask another question......

i have a borner 'v' slicer, bought at a food show after seeing it demonstrated. to be honest, it's a waste of money and i haven't used it for years, after trying it half a dozen times when i first got it. i too thought it would be good for making coleslaw and chopping/slicing veg for soups, etc. i found i ended up with a kitchen covered in bits of chopped up veg and sliced knuckles. i find my favourite knife to be much better and almost as quick to be honest.
my advice would be to buy a cheaper one and see how you get on with it before spending a lot of money on something you may not use.

I had an all singing all dancing very expensive mandolin and it was'nt worth the washing up. I got the small Oxo one about a year ago and I really like it.
For dicing and julienne the Nicer Dicer was the best thing I had unfortunately it wasn't the sturdiest and it broke. If you want to make coleslaw a grater or grater attatchment on a food processor would be your best bet.
