JoeLuke has just come up with one new event for next year's Games. What other new sports (which we'd stand a good chance of winning) should we introduce?

I'd suggest Synchronised Apology-Making, whereby two contestants from the same team are forced (under a variety of different circumstances) to bump into each other. Then, irrespective of who was actually to blame for collision, BOTH people must (in true British style) say 'Sorry' at EXACTLY the same moment. Marks could be given both for the accuracy of their timing and also for 'elegance' (whereby contestants are required to smile and raise an apologetic hand in a stylish manner, in perfect timing with their apology).

Are there any other games which we could be world-beaters at?

Sorry, Douglas. Isn't that an event that we'd be lousy at? Have you ever tried to phone BT / TalkTalk / British Gas / Virgin Media / Sky / NatWest / Barclays / etc / etc? When have you ever encountered anyone who would 'bend over backwards' to help you?

Another good idea.

Superb!

(I'm just dashing to Tesco, before they close at midnight, for a bottle of vino. Apologies to anyone who thinks that I'm ignoring their posts for a while!)

Regime change (amateur only)
You can buy off sales uo to midnight? I like that idea, we have a 10 o'clock curfew.

I'm back again, Douglas.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The Tesco which is 4 miles away from here closes at midnight but is licensed throughout all of their opening hours. The Tesco which is 10 miles in the other direction is open 24 hours a day (from Monday morning to Saturday night, with just 6 hours on Sunday). They're also licensed throughout all of their opening hours, so you can get off-sales at 3 or 4 in the morning if you want to (and I have!).
We could have a line up of international representatives and in turn each would say "lessons will be learnt from this". Our representatives have been training for a long time and stand an excellent chance of a gold medal.

A good suggestion, Vulcan42, but I fear that Hu Jintao (or even Silvio Berlusconi) might beat us to the gold medal!
