I recently read and reread Allen Carr's 'The Easy Way to Stop Smoking' and have followed all the instructions. It's not as easy as he makes out but I have been 'clean' for 6 days. Has anyone else stopped smoking using the Allen Carr method, what did you think and have you remained a non-smoker?

My sister did and maintains that this is THE BOOK TO READ IF YOU WANT TO STOP SMOKING. However I will add that her husband has also read it (numerous times) and is still a slave to the demon weed. I'm sure it comes down to the person, not only will power, but how much you GENUINELY want to stop. Just think of this, you won't know how much smokers stink untill you have stopped for a while and then you smell someone who stinks of fags.
Keep going Pickle, who cares about anyone else???
By the way, I'm NOT an ex-smoker, just someone who hates the smell!

Cheers Gazza. My husband also read the book, claimed it was all nonsense and is now down to one a day. It must have done something for him but he won't admit it.
I read the book and stopped smoking, and would recommend it to anyone trying to give up. It reads like nonsense -- sorry, Allen -- but by the end, I couldn't understand how I'd *ever* smoked. I think he deserves a knighthood for working out a method that's helped so many people.

Having said that, my wife tried and failed with the book. She eventually quit with Zyban. Six days is good: the monster is out of your system by now, and you're on the home stretch, even if it feels tough at the moment. If it works, it works; if not, move on until you find the thing that helps you quit.

Quitters Inc. by Stephen King tells of an uncoventional method.. Hope Allen Carr's method is not similar..
I read it a year ago and stopped immediately without any problems. I was a 20 a day for 20 year smoker. For further refererences check out the reviews of hos book on Amazon. Unreal.

I posted this question in 2002 and still haven't smoked since then. It's worth it.
