Honest?
If you found a wallet in the street & held a lot of £20 notes,/ with a named person inside, what would you do?

I once found a bundle of new notes whilst cycling and saw them in the road. Obviously just drawn from the bank. I handed them to a policeman who was on duty. He counted them out in front of me.
A couple of days later I received a letter from the rightful owner who thanked me and gave me a small reward for finding them. What was more important to me at the time was the typed letter from him which I could show to any future employer about my honesty.

I found a £20 in the alleyway by my house, screwed up with a KitKat wrapper. I kept the £20, as whoever "lost" it was throwing litter!
I found a lottery ticket at the end of my path, with (I think) 3 lines on it. 1 line won a tenner, and another about £40. I cashed it and split it with my friend who I was with, and it paid for our dinner that evening.
not sure what else I could have done in the circumstances, unless I gave it to charity. I have to say, it didn't even cross my mind at the time.

I found a very expensive camera together with several used rolls of film in the middle of the road in Scotland - I formed the view they had fallen off the back of a motorbike (from my limited German on reading the notebook in the bag). My OH had always wanted a nice camera like that. However, what concerned me more were the used rolls of film and the potential sentimental value. We took it to the local police station and handed it in.
When we got home, there was a postcard waiting for us from the "loser" thanking us for handing in said camera. A few days later a cheque for £50 turned up.

I have found a purse in a park which didn't have any contact details for the person, but did have all sorts of cards, gym membership etc, so I handed it into the Police station and got a card and bouquet of flowers from the lady. Have also found on different occasions, a £5 note which I kept as I had no way of knowing who had dropped it, I also found a £5 Lottery scratchcard on the pavement (it wasn't a winner, but hadn't thought what I would do if it was). My son recently found a phone on a train and tried to contact the owner, he managed to get in touch with him and arranged to meet to hand it over, but the man never turned up and despite my son contacting him a few more times, he didn't seem bothered about getting his phone back, probably claimed on insurance, so now my son has got this phone that doesn't belong to him, but some time has passed now and I don't know what would happen if he took it into the police station and how he could explain it away without getting into any trouble himself. However, I was very pleased that he had tried to do the right thing :) even if it did mean meeting a strange man outside a railway station toilet!

but actually, being totally honest theres definitely a possibilty id keep it...
i have found about 2 purses that had no ID in and nothing of much value, except for about £5...
i returned a purse that had loads of photos in, but i suspect someone had already taken the cash as it didnt even have a penny in it...
id always return any personal effects if i could, regardless.
of course id like someone to return it if mine...but hey ho...

Was in a play centre with daughter and granchildren. Dauughter had her purse pinched, which contained £100 she had drawn from the ATM that morning. Purse found in carpark outside and handed to local police. Money had gone by the time the purse was found but credit cards still in it. Only three other families in playcentre so had to be one of them that nicked it, took the cash then disguarded the purse and credit cards. Cheeky buggers!
