Vocal Chord Clipping!

I'm watching Grown Up's and the guy has just said that his neighbour complained so much about his dogs barking he had to get its vocal chords clipped. Does this really happen? It sounds so cruel!

As far as I know it is illegal in the UK.

I can't see how it is regarded as cruel enough to outlaw it though. Depending on how much tissue is removed, the dog still has a soft or rough bark, just not so loud. De-sexing is no less evil.

Now awaiting for the outcry.

I have no knowledge of the legal position but I doubt that any UK vet would consider offering the surgery. While they might be expensive, all of the British vets that I've come across seem to be genuinely interested in the welfare of the animals that they treat. It seems that some (but, I'm sure, by no means all) American vets might be more interested in making money from dog owners who can't be bothered to properly train their pets, and who seek 'quick fix' solutions to their problems.

(Sorry for the delay in replying. I've only just seen your post)

Noisy went missing on the Monday before last. I looked for her, and called her name (without success), on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. By then I'd more or less accepted that I'd never see her again. However, at 4am last Monday morning I was woken by a very familiar and exceptionally loud miaowing (she's not called 'Noisy' for nothing!) from my bedroom doorway, telling me that I needed to get up and feed a VERY hungry cat! ;-)

I've never jumped out of bed so fast!

So Noisy sends her love to you!

Chris - I am glad that your little girl came home - I do hope that she wasn't off having fun with some tom cat. I can just picture you wandering the streets shouting "noisy".

I'd love to know what she's up to when she disappears. (Having arrived back on Monday, she stayed around the area until Tuesday, but then disappeared again until Thursday!). She must have a boyfriend somewhere!

Chris (sorry erin), I am so pleased your cat is back - I know how it feels, our Rover has been missing for nearly four months now. Sounds like Noisy might have been shut in somewhere!

They were de-barking dogs (and de-clawing cats) in the US 25 years ago when my cousin used to live there. I presume they still do.
