What are the odds on the rioters/thieves having a go at the Olympics and destroying everything, I feel it's a great possibility.

Kids today spend so much time on violent computer/gizmo games that they loose touch with reality.

Schools/gyms/pools should open & be free for kids to mix & burn off energy during summer hols.
Anyway...........I don't use buses.

School kids should travel free on buses so they can explore. I'd happily forfeit my bus pass to them.

Catch a bus from their London estates & explore outside the M25. Kids could be given planned excusions to complete during their holidays.

I dont see them as scum.....they are bored. Put them in a different environment & we all reap the benefit.

Kids need boundaries for some order in their lives and if its not at home then they can be enticed with free activities.
Our local golf course has set up FREE lessons for school kids - lets have more freebies for them.

Bring this into city parks for the kids

tamborine, travel is free for children in London to the best of my knowledge.
as to the Olympics, that is more a problem for any terror activity than rioters, doesn't bear thinking about.
PLEASE, No more crap about riots. Boring.
Then why did you click onto a thread clearly titled "more riots"?
I clicked on the thread only because I've just got up and saw the title "more riots" and wondered if there had been more trouble last night.

The thread has reminded me though about school - it's amazing how many secondary students (and I'm sure some adults) can't write the number 2012 in digits when I read it out. The most common error is 200012 but this thread threw up a few 20012s.

Anyway, history suggests these things die out and looting will probably become 'uncool'. Certainly the Olympic village will not be of interest to rioters. However, I am sure some criminal gangs will take advantage of the police resources being stretched.
Ditto me - looks like a good bit of middle of the night tosh.

No, it won't happen.

(i) riots fizzle out, community workers and the rest go into bat...
(ii) looting and criminal activity is being frowned on right through the community and this perhaps is the silver lining in all of this - the strength of the community fight back. The Americans, by the way, have been gobsmacked by this reaction - sample four US friends e-mailing me but it has also been on the news
(iii) the excitement of the Games will begin to build as we get nearer - this will provide interest and focus and hopefully the kids may get behind team GB - perhaps an idea is to have large community tv screens for getting folk together - unless they were stolen too!
(iv) the policing of the Games is being shared - and the military are involved with on-site protection. The number of police will largely be the same
(v) MI5 and the police work carry on picking up the polluting "catalysts" coordinating and communicating these riot attacks behind scenes and the book is thrown at them. They are the cancer that needs weeding out and the key chucking away. Take them out and the streets should be safer.
The Olympics will have plenty of protection and offers plenty of time for the enormous security planto be implimented and rehearsed. No doubt it covers the whole country as stuff could equally happen away from London at that time.

The police had none of that luxury this week and had to respond as best they could.
