How old is too old to still be living under the parent's roof?

The Island's lifestyle- Parents don't have any problem having everyone living under the same roof as long as everyone chips in to pay bills. If they finally think of going out and looking for their own life, it's still not a problem.
The American lifestyle-Once they reach 18yrs, their on their own.
What about the rest in here. What is the lifestyle from where you're at?
I'm not sure if I'm making any sense here. I think I may sound rude to others but I'm not and I hope you're not implying that I am.

I pay a more than fair amount to my mum- she can't afford me not to, and I certainly wouldn't expect not to; I pay for my own food and live a completely independent life, just under her roof. My family is very close, so I just consider myself lucky. The alternative would be moving out alone, which I couldn't afford, or with someone else (which I'd hate) and that would kind of defeat the object.
