Building Regs needed?
3 Answers
I am going to insert a Velux window into my loft roof and have found out I don't need planning permission (great!) but wondered if anyone had any thoughts off the top of their head about whether I'd need to apply for Building Regulations before I go investigating? Happy to provide extra info should anyone need to know more before responding.

Often, a Velux can be fitted by just taking off a section of roof covering, and fixing it in the opening. If there's anything like a purlin, brace, principal truss etc in the way, a Structural engineer would have to calculate the alterations, and involve B/Regs.
Thankfully, as a builder, I've usually found that a chat with the Inspector as to what needs altering, is enough for him.
