Hi Bobbi - I know you are from Newcastle and I have been following Catherine Cooksons adaptations on TV as I have read all of her books. The one book that was her best was called "Katie Mulholland" a real masterpiece - however this book was never adapted. Since you are from that part of the world would you know why? Have a nice time in Bulgaria - I do hope it is not too far up in the mountains as I myself aint a good climber. Enjoy the guinness too in the plastic pub hahhahaha

I will be having a good time thanks :-)
I have just spoken to my friend via Skype and she says their little village shop is reminiscent of Arkwrights in Open All Hours, should be fun...

I liked the Coop at Beamish, where they have the system whereby when you paid, your money was placed in a little wooden container and launched on a pulley system to a cubby hole where the cashier would extract the money and return the change by the same system. I can still remember them in use up until the mid-fifties.
Awww we had a lovely day at Beamish last year when we went on holiday to your neck of the woods. I'll not forget the dentists in a hurry either! I really loved wandering around the little mining cottages too with their Peter Rabbit gardens.
We stayed not far from there in a holiday cottage on a sheep farm. Beautiful coutryside, the nearest village was called Lanchester.
We had a day in Newcastle, another on the coast, visited Durham, Hadrians Wall and much more. Oooo we packed it all in!
