Hi can anyone tell me what the rules are for parking in a retail park with a disabled badge on show. My sister parked with her daughter ( who is in a wheel chair ) and she got a ticket through the post the following day. She did not see any disabled bays near to where she wanted to park ( dont think there are any) and was not there too long. Many thanks
Depends on the retail park. Some places you are only allowed to park in designated bays that have the blue badge sign, maybe the ticket was for not parking accordingly. She could find out the rules of the site she parked at and if unfair ticket allocation then dispute it but do not pay it first.
basically you can park anywhere on a public road. In a private car park you have to obey the terms and conditions they lay down. Your sister needs to read the parking sign and if she complied with the rules put in an appeal. Everwhere seems to be different, and when I take my Mum out I always go and read the signs.
The directgov page says the following:
In England, Blue Badge holders may generally park:
•on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, except where there is a ban on loading or unloading
•at 'on-street' parking meters and pay-and-display machines for free and for as long as they need to
Prudie, one assumes that in a retail park it wouldn't be parking on yellow lines but in bays. Some say that disabled bays only for badges and some you can park in any bay with a blue badge. As we say, best check the site before leaving the car, I've always done that and had to drive away because of the rules where there are no blue badge bays and didn't want to risk leaving the car in an ordinary space just in case.
Prudie, you do not display the photo, that is on the reverse of the blue badge. You have to display the front of it, which shows the issuing authority, and the expiry date.
Sorry denis, I'm a bit out of touch with it. I thought there were 2 bits or something. I'm just remembering (dirtortedly it seems) what my mother used to say.
I don't think the OP has said anywhere why she got a ticket? Maybe it was for outstaying the time limit, or for parking incorrectly, blocking an exit or something?
Perhaps the OP could explain the circumstances a bit better please otherwise everyone is just guessing.
