Yeah I would say the egg too.....it would have had to evolve into a chicken!
I would say that a bird evolved that was very much like a chicken and it laid an egg from which hatched a chicken!

The whole point of this is that there is no answer!

Its a circle that has no start or end.

you cant have one without the other

Like sophie_1003 says; eggs evolved millions of years before chickens were even thought of.

Most scientists believe that birds developed from reptiles. Since most reptiles to this day reproduce by laying eggs, it's rational to assume that the first bird-like creature came from an egg, too. It would then have laid eggs and - over millions of years, perhaps - birds as we know them slowly developed and produced different species. The present-day chicken is one of these, but - 'way back when - its great-great-grand-daddy almost certainly came from an egg.
The egg pre-dated the bird, if you believe in evolution. Of course, fundamentalist believers in the Bible will say that God created all the creatures as creatures. In that case, the bird pre-dated the egg. Take your pick!
I've always thought that the question meant when the first chicken came about which came first, the chicken or the egg? ie did the first chicken come out of an egg or did the first chicken lay the first chicken egg?
Niether came first, it was bacterie that evolved into thousands of other creatures.

I agree with joko. However, if I was to choose a side, I believe the chiken came first. I beleive that God created all creatures. If you stop and think it, evelution sounds crazy and random. As if us humans came from one bit of bacteria that was the result of a big bang! When you read even just a little bit of the Bible, it makes sense. Go the Chicken!

God made the chickens thne they laid the eggs.

I looked this up many months ago, and surprisingly enough, I found the answer.

A man from America used the United States Postal Services to come to a conclusion, he posted a chicken AND an egg at the same post office at the same time, to arrive at the same destination, amazingly the egg arrived a whole DAY AND A HALF before the chicken.

So there's your answer.
