I am starting some temp work next week and was just wondering if the rate per hour that you are quoted is before or after income tax and NI deductions?

I would be grateful for any feedback

Thanks

It's usually before tax and NI, but may include holiday pay. Check with the agency rep.

I have my payslip in front of me. My gross pay works out at 7.25 an hour, but appears on the sheet as 6.7/hr plus holiday pay.

Rates quotes are almost always gross.

rach,

Working in recruitmet I can definetly tell you the advert will be advertising a rate as gross rather than net. However you are also legally entitled to holiday pay (I think that 14 days p/a is the legal minimum, but most agencies will offer between 15-20 - check on the terms and Conditions you will have signed.) some agencies are very sneaky in that they will advertise their rate to include holiday pay rather than leaving it to accrue until you actually take holiday or alternatively, leave the agency, therefore making it seem that your hourly rate is more than it actually is. Hope this helps, happy temping!!!

Thanks for all your comments guys.

What would you say should be the average hourly rate for just a temp admin job at the minute.

Totally depends on where you live - here in Liverpool, about 5.50 to 6.00 an hour.
Here in the the Cotswolds, 6 - 7/hr. London, of course, will be the highest.
