Being practical, you may find you have local byelaws that state when you can burn stuff. Try your council's website - rule of thumb, do it after dark....make sure nobody's got washing out.....confine the fire in a metal bin so no chance of it getting out out control - try to minimise smoke, and don't burn plastics etc.
Personally I love the smell of burning wood.

Thankyou for those who gave nice posts, I did go and knock on peoples doors down the street to check, They were all very nice about it, But it started to drizzle and the BONFIRE would not catch light, So we are going to leave it till tomorrow, Council have told her if it is not cleared by friday then they would serve her with an Eviction notice, This is a woman who had breast cancer and on chemo and was not up to doing the maintance on her garden, but She has now got the all clear, But is now very worried. They contacted her tuesday to tell her that they would be serving the notice friday. Three days notice!!!
Yep maidup..best bit is it was the Neighbour who reported her, and she is god daughter to the woman with the garden, If she had a problem with the fencing and frightened that her dog would get through to the children she looked after, ( child minder )wouldn't you have said something. instead of going straight to the council.
