Hi All,
What are the symptoms of a goitre? My friend, who has a thyroid problem and now takes carbimazole ( has done doe many years) has developed a lump in her throat/neck. Her breathing is now very bad and she is a bit shakey. anyone had similar problems? is this likely to be a goitre?
thanks.
Annie.

A goitre is an enlarged thyroid gland and it can produce an excess of hormones causing a condition known as thyrotoxicos is.(hyperthy roidism)
Google it for it's symptoms.
This "lump" it is important to decide whether it is attached to the thyroid gland or is separate and these may need a scan to differentiat e.

If it IS attached to the gland then your friend MAY need surgery, BUT if it is separate from the thyroid gland then further investigations may be necessary as it is unlikely to be anything to do with her pre exixting condition.
