Northampton to Reims

What is the EASIEST way to travel from Kettering/Corby area in last two weeks in September to Soissons/Reims area in France - ie with least changeovers etc. Either by coach, train or plane - no preference. Traveller will be a 64 year old going to stay with family. He's very intelligent and used to travelling abroad. I'm helping to arrange a family reunion so any help will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

The thing is that Eurostar fetches ups at La Gare du Nord, whereas trains for Rheims depart from La Gare de L'Est. It's only one stop on the Métro if you are at all familiar with it.

Well I mainly suggest that way because you can get a train direct from either of those stations, and eurostar is simply a matter of going down an escalator or lift once at St P - literally a few hundred yards.

If your reference to winning the lottery implies that you think that Eurostar is always expensive, I think that you might be wrong. Of course, it depends upon your exact dates and times of travel but (for example) Corby to Reims only costs £135 return when travelling out on Thursday 15th September and back a fortnight later.

The best flight option would be from East Midlands to Paris Charles de Gaulle, with BmiBaby. The journey from CDG to Reims can be completed by changing at Champagne-Ardenne, with a total journey time of under an hour (but with a quite expensive return fare, of around £55). To get to East Midlands Airport would require a train to Leicester, then the Skylink bus.
