For some reason I can no longer post replies on AB - there is no SUBMIT button or whatever it is called after my reply.

Anyway, thank you for your answers. I'd forgotten until Clanad mentioned it (fancy meeting you on this site; what a polymath you are) that my broccoli are purple sprouting. I'm encouraged by the idea that I can't expect florets until the winter, but what a waste of energy on behalf of the plant - and why did the garden centre sell them so early?

Obviously patience is what I need. And now I must ask the EB editor why I can't send answers any more. Thanks again.

Some plants take a long time to get ready to produce flowers (which is what broccoli florets are) - and it's an autumn/winter plant, so it's the way it is.
Let us know how you get on with the Ed - that sounds odd that you have no submit button.
This problem is known to occur with IE6 but I don't recall any reports of it happening with other browsers.
Even if you can't see the submit button you may sill be able to click where it should be. As you type a reply in the white box can you see a digital counter that says something like 253/4000 just below the white box- if so, just click about 1cm to teh right of the end of the number 4000 and that should submit your response. You may want to try it now.
I am on this thread only to find out if you typed broccoli or if the swear filter changed a 'bad' word to broccoli. Alas I have now discovered that your question was about the more boring of the two - real broccoli.

:-(

Thanks, all of you. Problem cured now. As factor30 says, it was due to my reverting to the old IE6 which I had never updated.

Sorry wolf63, I'll try to think up something salacious and less boring...
wolfy, I have to confess that I first opened this thread, thinking exactly the same thing ;-)
Often called polygonal, rarely polymath... although Mrs. C says I'm a walking compendium of absolutely uselss facts...

Nice to see you chakka, as usual!
Ha, ha, I too had thought chakka had used a naughty word and was curious.

I love purple sprouting broccoli.
