Noisy neighbours!
14 Answers
I don't know what to do, we have neighbours living next door, muslims, and lately they've started getting up at 2-3 am and cooking, banging pots and pans and having really loud conversations, a few times now I have been woken up by them in the middle of the night. Is it still Ramadam? Which, I have no problems with religion and that but just the noise! x

They may be noisy but they ain't mind readers, They just lack respect for other people unless they sleep in the day and are not happy about noise from you in the day time. You could report them to the police if it is that bad but I doubt that will have much effect. But if they are arguing and shouting you can use that as a better way to get the police round by saying alot of disterbance and you think someone could be in danger by the sound of shouting and arguments,The police will then come round and give a warning that if it happens again they will go on record. It happened when my girlfriend had a small argument with me and a neibour rang the police. They came here and saw it was only a little argument but had to give a warning that if happened again that it would go on criminal record.
Thing is I've never spoken to them, they keep themselves to themselves, which is fair enough. As for me keeping them awake during the day, that's just silly lol. If they want to stay up all night, that's their choice. I work a lot of nights and never complain about the noise during the day, even if neighbours are doing DIY work, as this is what I expect to be going on during the day. I sometimes can't sleep during the nights due to working nights, and end up being up, but never am I noisy, especially noisy enough to wake up neighbours. Am I just being unreasonable? x
Think you will have to have a friendly chat with them, they may not know they are causing problems during the wee small hours, not a lot of people realise how they can upset their neighbours with noise unless it's brought to their attention. Hope you get it sorted...friendly chat first and see how it goes. If no help then perhaps you will have to consider other options but try talking first off and again if need be.
Yes, it is still Ramadan. Friends of mine are still fasting. They can only eat and drink between the hours of 2.00-3.00 am and just before 9.00am, depending on where they live, and so they make a big thing of the whole family getting up and eating together.
Ramadan continues until the end of August.

I have no problems with the noise during the day, I tend to sleep better in the day lol. But when I am not working in the nights and find it difficult to sleep, I don't want to be woken up. It has never been an issue before which is why I think it may be due to Ramadam, (as they have not long moved in) which I think is still bring celebrated? Which I respect their beliefs and may just stick it out until it finishes, and if it still carries on, then making them aware of it? xx
Actually, Quassia has a point. Just try to explain calmly that whilst you understand their need to observe their faith, their noise is waking you in the night and perhaps they could try to be a little quieter when they are up through the night.
I know my friends would be mortified if they thought they were upsetting their neighbours in such a way.

Saxy, just seen your post, thanks for the information, that would explain why it's 2-3 that I hear the commotion, I thought it was they could eat during the dark hours, evidently it's more specific. I'm working nights now for the next week and then away for a week, so will grit my teeth, thanks all xx

Slight mistake - I read the times wrong. Eating and drinking is allowed after approx 9.00pm and up to around 3.00am. Timetable here:
