Cameras have obviously been placed in these areas, but simply

record what happens.




If you are planning a trip to China in the future, think twice before crossing the road!!!

They happen here on zebra crossings too, the drivers just do not stop, or if they do, some beggar overtakes them, highly dangerous, much better to cross elsewhere!

It looks to me as though driver training hasn't kept pace with the massive economic growth of the country.

I wonder how strict their training / testing process is.

Definitely true, went to Shanghai and Beijing in 2006 and crossing the road was a life changing experience. Some of the bigger junctions have walkways over the road which is the only safe way to cross. Also took a taxi ride and still wonder how we got back to our hotel in one piece!

I lived in mainland China - in Shanghai and indeed one saw several incidents, the worst being on Xmas Eve when going down to Hangzhou. A bus had just gone over a cyclist and I can vouch brains go a long way.

The good news is that we were about 4th car and got through very quickly so it was just a quick image but the guys head was stoved in. The problem two minutes later would have been a massive tailback as the locals form a kangaroo court on the spot and god help if you are on the wrong side of that. We didnt drive actually for that very reason......the risk that you are gouged as Uncle Joe used to have two heads and four arms and now has one head two arms......well you get the drift.

The biggest causes (i) bald tyres just like that cement mixer - on some vehicles, they were smoother than babie' bottoms (ii) overloaded trucks (iii) no lights (iv) pedestrians in the road - one time from Guangzhou to Shenzhen there was a woman with a pram walking up the high speed lane of the then new motorway............

horrific - and in many ways worse than say Nigeria or Egypt which can be pretty bad......Thailand can have its moments too, in particular trucks and bikes do not mix and trucks have a habit of reversing back and ensuring that the evidence does not talk. And they think the Thais are benign folk!
