Building duck house - help!

We are building a duck house in the garden for 2-4 Aylesbury ducks We have plans for the house itself and pond, but we are confused with the conflicting advise about the duck run.

We have a secure garden and will allow the ducks to roam free when we are home. When we are out we would like them to be a little more penned in a run. My question is, does the run need a cover or will they be safe with an open run?

*There are cats in the neighborhood and there are birds of prey in the area, but I have never seen foxes anywhere near.

Thank you :0)

You might find this link helpful. Also foxes may attack them, so I think they certainly need to be covered up at night. Not sure whether they can fly - ducks which live in my village fly all the time. I think you have to clip their wings. Be nice to have your own eggs to eat!

Thank you hellywelly - link looks very helpful.

It will be lovely having our own eggs too! :0)
Foxes are probably there even if you are not aware. Most important thing is to make the top secure as the blighters are very canny where dinner is concerned. Probably around more at night but I wouldn't be too sure your ducks will be safe out during the day....
your not an MP are you ?
