Just been and put a deposit on some baby rats, it wasn't my fault they were sooo cute. There was 5 in the litter and my son wanted 2 so there would have been 3 left getting lonely and frankly it would have been rude not to. Trouble is hubby wasn't keen on getting any more ratties so I'm gonna have to be extra nice to him when he gets in tonight and butter him up before i break the news of our impending arrivals.

seriously it seems for you rats are like peanuts....you can't possibly have just one... they are cute though I hated it when the late lamented Tinkerbella used to bring dead ones home I like them

I shall ignore the rat haters and their evil suggestions.... They are lovely, friendly animals and make wonderful pets. I have had about 20 over the years but none recently so I'm a bit excited.

rats are VERY sociable animals and should always be kept in pairs or more never solitaity, they die very quickly otherwise, unless you constantly pet it and be around it a great deal, i e, not leaving it alone if your out at work,
they are fabulous little pets very clean but tend to chew thru phone / eletcric cables so be warned hide your cables.

Thanks Deggers, I love them. I can't collect them till Monday, they are only 6 weeks old and glorified mice at the moment really. Got them from a proper breeder and they are nice and tame.

If you are really lucky they can get to about 3, but sadly they can get respiratory problems and tumours mainly due to most being decended from laboratory rats. Good breeders are trying to breed that out though.

I had two pet rats a few years ago and they were brilliant :) wish I could get them again but when we had Merry and Pippin I found out I was allergic :( I coped then but couldn't do it again.

I have never had any myself but would be tempted if I didn't have a JRussell type dog and a puddy cat. A friend of mine used to have quite a few running around and they were so friendly and intelligent.

Well he made a bit of a frowny face and had a bit of a mumble but I showed him the nice rhubarb and custard cake I made and he's happier now lol
If I find out how to put pics up I certainly will.
