My friend runs a hedgehog rescue and fund raises all year round to provide them with food and care. She always feeds them cans of Chum Puppy food (loaf product - not in jelly) as it is the best one for their delicate digestion. She has now been told that the company (Mars - Pedigree) has discontinued this product after many years and she is in despair - does anyone know of any other puppy foods produced by other manufacturers which is similar (no jelly please - it gives them diarrhoea) She has tried the dried puppy food and its not suitable. Thanks for any help.........
Butchers make a loaf food (but not sure whether it is puppy food). Also Chappie original is like a loaf food, but again not sure whether is puppy.Does it have to be a puppy food??
These are mainly sick or orphaned (or Autumn born and underweight so unable to hibernate through Winter) hedgehogs who live in a "pet hospital" environment so have to be cared for round the clock otherwise they would die.
fishing shops supply maggots and many people have 'wormeries' , supplying earthworms to fishermen- if you can't find a substitute for what you've been using maybe you could try these places. I realise the how convenient the original method would be though.
We used to sell tins of 'hedgehog food' although it looked and smelled like cat food. As above, Chappie or Butchers or some of the Supermarkets do their own brand loaf food.
If it were me I would take a label off the tin of Pedigree and take it to the supermarket to compare with similar puppy food until I found the one most closely resembling Pedigree Chum Puppy food. It will take a little while but she'll only have to do it once. Could you offer to help her if she's very busy and you have the time?
