Does anybody know why these postage stamps have 2 little "oval" pieces which can be pushed out? Are the stamps invalid if one (or both) areas get pushed.

I asked the postman, but he did not know.

I understand that it is to prevent incompletely franked stamps being removed from envelopes and reused.

Thank you scotman for your prompt answer. I never use unfranked stamps just in case the GPO fail to deliver the letters bearing them
I use them for my comps if I get any then if they are not delivered it really doesnt matter as I never win.
