Play ipod In Car

I'd like to be able to play my ipod nano through the car stereo.

I was advised to buy an FM transmitter that would work through a free FM signal.

Tried it but the sound quality is appalling.

Is there a way of plugging the ipod directly into the car stereo without having to use the radio, please?

have u tried the itrip from apple? it's brilliant and can play through any stereo so u can use at home too...u might have to check can u download app from itunes for itrip..it works for iphone and itouch so just check if it will also work for nano.
If you'd still prefer to use a lead check the apple store online..

we (my son, daughter, husband and i) all play our ipods through car stereos via an fm transmitter with no problem. The only thing i would say is they do need to be closeish together, i lay the ipod on the tray thing near the gear stick just below the radio, the further away you get the more crackly it will become.

have you tried various fm frequencies, some work better than others.

i have one and it works perfectly, i have to have the ipod volume up about a 3rd though, and then i can crank the stereo volume up for some bangin toons. any higher on the ipod and it starts to crackle a bit.

just checked..yep the itrip app is a free download from itunes and the if u buy the itrip device (from the apple store) it is compatible with your nano.
i highly recommend this best fm transmitter around..brilliant sound quality..for home u won't have to buy a stereo with ipod dock, u can use itrip on any stereo and have a loud party!!!

There are various devices which play iPod back via the FM tuner in the car but instead of a short range broadcast connection they in effect become part of the radio by plugging the car aerial connector in one side of the control box and re-inserting the "out" cable to the radio. You then tune in as any other radio source, usually around 88.4, select a preset button and you're ready to go.
The lead for the iPod can be introduced to the glove box or any other suitable area within reach.

A very cost-effective one is the iConnect FM from Connects2 at around £50.00 although depending on the car, antenna adaptors may be required. Other than that it's pretty much universal.

ps You do have to connect to a switched live in the car to give the unit power.

if you have a cassette player in the radio buy a cassette coveter around £6 or less, this goes into your cassette player the cable plugs in to your i pod or other device and it plays ok i had to but an adaptor lead for my iphone as it's not got the usual jack plug, it has 4 parts on the end of the jack plug not 3 (that was about £10 but hey everything works ok
