My mouse curser keeps on moving on its own.

On top of this my @ and " keys on my keyboard are switched round and my 'pound' sign comes up as #.

Both are standard cable devices and I run XP.What the hell's going on?

Don't know about your mouse. but you have the wrog language setting for your keyboard - go into control panel, choose Regional & Language Options, choose the Languages tab, then click on the Details button and change your keyboard settings to United Kingdom, and delete the US (or whatever they are currently set to)
Hi crgb, the mouse problem is probably either a fault in the mouse itself or the cable is broken and making loose connection inside somewhere. Try a different mouse before doing anything else.
I used to have the mouse moving on its own because of interferences from my mobile phone, but recent mice don't have that problem as far as I know.
The mouse problem might be XP's snap to feature. Go to control panel and select mouse (or printers and other hardware and then mouse). The click the pointer options. If the Snap To check box is ticked untick it.
your not online when the mouse moves by itself?
