A silly question really, I know.
Why does instant coffee taste so much better if you put the milk in first?
It's the same ingredients just mixed in a different order yet a different flavour is created.
Or is it just me that thinks this is the case?

Can't say I've noticed any difference.
Unless by putting the milk in first the coffee granules float on top and deposit themselves around the cup rim for you to taste neat.
because boiling water burns the coffee if put in before milk

It does depend on the coffee your using though, most of it tastes revolting no matter what you do with it.
D97 - I think you're right. I always put milk in first, quick 20 sec. blast in micro wave then top up with very hot water. No sugar.
I'm a milk first girl as it does taste better! not sure why, but it works! x
Agree with 4get, the water burns the coffee and it's tastes more bitter, definately add milk after.
milk first in coffee, but last in tea
I'm willing to bet that in a blind tasting you wouldn't be able to say which method was used.
I always put the milk in first, both tea and coffee.
On the contrary, I'll bet I'd be able to tell the difference, Rojash. And remember that adding milk last to very hot tea or coffee can scald the milk, giving it a UHT-type taste that many people don't like.
You CAN taste the difference, because you're not supposed to use boiling water on instant coffee, so the milk cools it down a few degrees. Makes no odds to me though, I only drink black fresh coffee!!
