Well of course jno you can be arrested and tried twice for the same crime - subject to some pretty stringent safeguards.

However being found guilty, serving time, being released and then rearrested and sent back to gaol for the same crime because people have changed their minds about letting you out and think they made a mistake - that's another thing all...

how on earth did the EDL get in here? They make mysterious appearances on a lot of threads; they must know somebody on the door at AB.

Anyway, no, whatever my doubts about Megrahi's guilt (and they are great), he's been tried and sent to prison. Why should anyone be arrested and tried twice for the same crime?
zeuhl, perhaps you didn't notice i said hanged?
You did too em - sorry and regards
zeuhl, you're welcome, we have haven't had capital punishment for many years, though some say it should be reinstated, still undecided on that, though there are some bstds who could do with a long stretch....
if we had hanging now, Barry George would presumably be dead. That's why I don't want it back (and why it was abolished in the first place).

Yes I must admit that that is my feeling. Added to the fact that I find it hard to believe that Al-Megrahi is the real mastermind behind the bombing. In fact, no one seriously believes that surely. And if Gaddafi is captured alive it would surely make more sense to try to have him held to account for it instead.
Lockerbie was an Iranian operation. In retaliation for the US shooting down of an Iranian airliner full of civilians.

They may have used operatives from other countries, and Libya be have supplied a foot soldier, but Al Megrahi was not involved.

The US are the ones clamouring for him to be re captured, but they would have executed him though he was innocent if his trial had been in America.
