does anyone have any idea how to remove what I think is bitchumen - sorry I know I've spelt it incorrectly - on an inside wall. For some reason the previous owners of my bungalow stuck some insulting panels on the wall with a black stuff which looks like black plastic. HELP!

That will be some form of tanking to stop damp or condensation. I would look carefully before removing it as it might be stopping the damp coming through.
