Help with toilet training a kitten
3 Answers
My kitten has taken to pooing on the coconut mat by my front door. He also, on occasion, poos in his litter tray. I have removed the coconut mat but he now poos on the exposed concrete beneath.
He is 13 weeks old and I have had him for a week. He used his litter tray happily for the first few days and has only now settled into this rather unpleasant new regime. Note that he always wees in the litter tray only.
Help! I am at the end of my tether....

If you have only had him a week his surroundings are different. I have had this problem many times. Try moving his litter tray to the place where he is "going"& then gradually move it to the place that is best for you. Also, never have his food bowls close to his tray as cats are clean animals by nature & will often perform as far away as possible from their feeding station. If the weather permits you can then move his tray outside. There will be accidents but he will get the message eventually. Another tried & trusted method is if you catch him "at it" to immediately lift him up & put him in his litter box. It is no good doing this unless you catch him in the act or hr won't know he is doing wrong & will confuse him further. Hope this helps, it has for me.
when my cat was tiny, we would put him in his litter tray as soon as he'd eaten, he'd usually go on the spot! If he ever 'went' in a place he shouldn't have, we would put his litter tray in that spot for a while. Gradually we moved the litter tray to the back door, then eventually outside the back door. Then after a couple of weeks we took it away completely. He's now 3 years old and prefers to do his business in nextdoors back garden!! Cats eh?
