I love bananas and grapes (not necessarily at the same time) but are they fattening?

How can they be, they're fruit, no fruit is fattening is it?? Please say it isn't cause I always feel well good about myself when I eat fruit!

when I was at weight watchers a while back, we had to watch the banana intake. But I always think that it's better to eat two bananas in one go than a twix and a twirl!

or a mars and a flake.....

or a time out and a double decker.....

or a creme egg and a whole nut...

or a caramel and a crunchie.

Sorry, it's been a while!

Im not sure about them being fattening (although I read a yoga book which recommended a 1 day fruit detoxing diet. You eat nothing but 1 particular type of fruit for a day, but it told of a girl who ate nothing but bananas and put on weight so maybe there is something to it?!) The thing with bananas and grapes is that they release sugar quickly, which will make you hungry quicker than if you were to eat a slow releasing fruit like an apple. Its all to do with keeping your blood sugar levels stable. Theres loads of info on the net about this if you want to check it out more

I think I read somewhere about grapes having natural sugar in them, which makes me wonder if they are fattening - and bananas are lovely and sweet, but what the heck, it must be better than eating chocolate and cream cakes! At least you don't feel sick after eating fruit ..
All fruit is fattening if you eat too much of it or anything else.
If calories in is greater than calories out then the body stores the excess as fat.

In comparison to other food such as chocolate then course not. But fruit has lots of natural sugars in which if you eat too much can cause you to gain weight but thats the same with most things. If you want to eat things that wont make you gain weight then vegetables are the best as the carb and glucose content is low.

Carbs are broken down into glucose and if too much glucose is in the blood then insulin is released and converts the glucose into a insoluble form which is stored as fat. So you just need to watch out for glucose levels.

Thats also why its better to have smaller meals throughout the day rather then big ones. As it will keep glucose levels stable and so your body wont try to store loads.
