Lighting
I cannot afford at the moment to have my house rewired and the lighting is not earthed. I am looking for a spotlight for my kitchen that is not metal. Any ideas ??

Are you sure it's not just your kitchen light? It's very common to find two wires coming from a ceiling (phase live & phase neutral). The rest of the wiring could have been pushed up into the ceiling void.
Check that first.

Ok perose............ 2 things I can think of:
If it's easy enough to pull some floorboards upstairs, you should be able to pick up an earth from the ring circuit (sockets). If there's no earth on that circuit, I would move out right away and have it re-wired!!!!
Or ............... if you can't find a spot with no metal parts, then go for a low voltage (12v) fitting. The transformer doesn't need an earth.
