This morning i helped my mum fill in some of the gaps in the Guardian Double Crossword (the one with a Potter theme), but we were unable to come up with an answer to one clue despite having most of the letters.

I don't have the crossword in front of me and I can't remember the exact wording as it included a long quotation but I remember the letters were

??X?E?N?R
(The X is right- it was the end of 'Beatrix')

I assume it's the name of a character/thing in a book (maybe Harry Potter).

Can anyone who did the crossword remember the answer please?

Tough without the clue really.

All Chambers brings up is 'Sixteener' not up on Harry Potter though.
Hi factor - it was

28a (Grid B) Entries exchanged for such as "Slowly comes a hungry people, as a lion creeping nigher" (9)

Sixteener (16 syllables) - anag 'entries ex[changed]'
It is a quote from Tennyson.
Sorry, should have added it wasn't one of the themed clues...
Oh so I sort of got it !! lol

Thanks Mamyalynne (you beat Lie-in King) and thanks to Lie-in king for the explanation.
Well he was busy at the time, eating my éclair.
Oh good grief, not here as well!

Drop the éclair. The éclair is history.
