The numerous Queen Elizabeth Islands are situated in the Baffin Bay region of Canada, west of Greenland.

The largest of the island group are Ellesmere, Devon, Axel Heiberg, Melville, Bathurst, and Prince Patrick. First sighted by Europeans in the early 1600s, the islands were not fully explored and charted until the British Northwest Passage expeditions, and later Norwegian exploration, of the 19th century.

The islands were named after Queen Elizabeth II of England on her coronation in 1953.
