OH has been experimenting and has filtered the used cooking oil a few times and now looks.....better.He is thinking of trying it in the car, just putting about 3 litres in a quarter tank of diesel.
Keeping it simple, and I don't want to start a debate on tax,Has anyone out there tried something like this?
Should he thin the oil down with white spirit or something?
Any experiences would be welcome
Thanks

I ran my VW camper on it for ages, I always made sure I had at least a gallon of diesel in the tank then filled the tank with oil, it pinked a bit and stank like a chip shop but very cheap motoring.
hc4361 - my husband thinks its Asda cooking oil he uses and reckons he mixes something with it. All the plastic bottles are squashed and put in the plastics recycling bin collected every week - why do you ask?
I got around the tax issue quite easily (Yes im bad) I bought my oil commercially, I always kept a receipt with me for 5 gallons that I had paid the duty on. I had the same receipt for 6 moths.
*months
my OH worked in the South Wales Valleys for a few weeks!............he couldn't understand where the smell of chips ws coming from!......no fish and chip shop anywhere near them!.........yes, cars being run on oil from the chip shops!........
Ann86, it just boggles my mind to think of the zillions of bottles of vegetable oil he must get through, trolley loads
"yes, cars being run on oil from the chip shops!"
...and what a brilliant way to a) recycle b) save on fossel fuels and c) cock a snook at our beloved scamming government eh ? ;-)
My friend buys cheap cooking oil I believe in Lidl's or Aldi and mixes it with his diesel, but I don't know what percentage. Next time I see him I will ask. It seems to work all right. He hasn't had any bother yet, but of course by buying it fresh it is already clean.
Ratters ya vagabond! : )
:)
wouldn't ever want to use it to run my car, ruins the engine!.....
Not always Welsh, and if the car's not worth much anyway - it could still be very economically viable. Fair enough if your car is newish and worth a lot of money.

Thanks for update. Obviously my drinking habits have fallen behind the times. The bread filtering was known to me. I assume that the pyridine molecule would have been large enough for the bread to remove it and let the methanol pass.
Is a tincture of Pot. Perm. poisonous?

7 years ago I only paid about 23 pence a litre of commercially processed oil.
