sanggang ajam or Ayam!! or gangbang chicken as I call it

Need help with a recipe which I have lost! I believe it was called something like sang ajam or sangang ajam something like that. The version I had involved a spatchcocked chicken which was then coated in a layer of indian spices, oil finely chopped onion and left to marinade and then it was simmered in coconut milk and then finally I would put it under the grill to give it a bit of colour!!
My question is, has anyone ever heard of it? and do they have a simpler version? For instance (in these hard times of double dip recession) could I simpler use curry paste and and water down the coconut milk a bit?
By the way, it's rather tasty ;-)
