Flooding London with police over the last couple of nights seems to have put a stop to most of the trouble, at least in this part of it - though there were still some local disturbances near here. If the same tactics are applied in other major cities, there is a good chance we'll have a quieter weekend.
Did you see what Boris Johnson said about the London rioters? 83% of them were already known to the police, and 75% had a previous conviction. Then the prisons were blamed for not rehabilitating these recidivists.
Television can be an educational tool. It can show us what is happening at distances far beyond the range of normal vision and, at times plays a role in the modern-day collapse of law and order. And no matter where you live in the world, every day seems to bring in another crop of crimes. Therefore, it is reasonable to ask what the world comeing too?
It's a wonder we haven't yet seen real riots from genuinely aggrieved public, as opposed to these opportunist, "Hey let's smash some folk's stuff up and steal what we can", varieties. But I guess it takes an awful lot before decent folk go down that route in protest.
